INTERNATIONAL OFFICE
Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery
Heidelberg University Hospital has a long tradition of providing medical treatment to international patients. Guests from all over the world have been coming to us for treatment for many years. In addition to the excellent reputation that our clinic enjoys worldwide, patients in Germany are offered the shortest waiting times in Europe, the fastest access to innovative medicines, a free choice of treating physicians and a comprehensive catalogue of services. Most international patients come from Eastern Europe and the Near and Middle East. However, our clinic is also visited by patients from neighbouring European countries. We employ staff with Russian and Arabic language skills. State-certified interpreters are also available if required. Language should not be an obstacle. In addition, all rooms have internet access at the patient's bedside and multilingual television. There are single and double rooms. Patients can order different meals.
For the treatment of our patients without German health insurance, we work closely with the International Office of Heidelberg University Hospital. The International Office is your designated contact for all matters relating to your stay: from the first telephone call to your return to your home country, it ensures your seamless administrative support in close coordination with the University Hospital. This includes confidential, personal consultations with our doctors and explaining the exact procedure during your stay.
Processing your enquiry is free of charge for you. The International Office team will liaise closely with the treating department regarding the planned therapy, possible surgery options and appointments and will then prepare your individual cost estimate.
As part of our In-Patient Full Service Package, our cooperation partners will take care of the entire planning of your stay. You will be picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel or apartment that has already been organised. The In-Patient Full Service Package also includes the translation of doctor's letters into English. If you have not already hired an interpreter in advance, the International Office team will be happy to organise this on request.

Treatment costs
Enquiries are assessed individually depending on the patient's clinical picture, based on the medical findings. The calculations for inpatient treatments are based on the German DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) billing system.
Please note that treatments are not exclusively limited to one cost estimate. If further treatments are necessary or your stay is extended, you will receive an interim invoice. This must also be paid immediately.
Our staff at the International Office will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Terms of payment
After receiving our cost estimate, please transfer the full amount to the bank account specified in the cover letter.
Alternative payment options are credit card or cash payment. As soon as we have received your payment, you can be admitted on the agreed treatment date.
Final settlement
The final invoice will be issued approximately 1-2 weeks after completion of the medical treatment. If the final invoice is higher than the cost estimate, the difference must be paid immediately.Overpayments will of course be refunded. The subsequent payment or refund will be made in the same way as the advance payment - by bank transfer, credit card or cash.
Optional services
Optional services are additional special services that go beyond the general hospital services.
Cost units without prepayment
If you are interested in medical treatment that is paid for by an embassy or insurance company, please contact us by phone or e-mail.

In collaboration with the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) at the Heidelberg University Hospital, we offer numerous clinical studies related to the treatment of pancreatic tumors, in which the very latest medications are being employed.
