"Wolfgang Heim in conversation with doctors and scientists" is the title of the video podcast series of Rhein-Neckar Fernsehen (RNF). This series is often about life and death from the scientific side; and so it is no coincidence that Prof. Christoph W. Michalski, MD, was asked for an interview. Michalski is an outstanding surgeon and operator who specializes in visceral surgery with a focus on pancreatic surgery, as well as interdisciplinary medicine and surgery.
Since April 1 of this year, he has been the new Director of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital and therefore has a lot of clinic management tasks to take care of, which, however, are not unknown to him as the scion of a Heidelberg business family. The management also does not keep him from keeping his core business as a surgeon as his top priority and dedicating himself first and foremost to the people who entrust their lives to him. Prof. Michalski's day-to-day work focuses on high-tech operations that are minimally invasive and robot-assisted. These are extremely demanding procedures that require a highly professional team. The native of Heidelberg feels committed to the cause and does not take himself too seriously, but is strongly oriented towards interdisciplinarity and exchange within the team, is wide awake, quick-witted and always seizes opportunities when they present themselves.
This is how a medical student with the desire to become a doctor has developed into an outstanding surgeon who, according to his own statement, would choose this profession again at any time. In an exclusive 30-minute interview with Wolfgang Heim, Prof. Christoph Michalski shares his expertise and experience and shows a particularly human side.
