ICD-10 Wiki
What is ICD-10 – and why do we use it here?
ICD-10 is an internationally recognised classification system used to name and categorise diseases and diagnoses in a standardised manner worldwide. It is published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and forms the mandatory basis for medical documentation in Germany. When your doctor makes a diagnosis, it is coded according to the ICD-10 – this ensures that everyone involved is on the same page, regardless of which hospital or practice you are in.
On our website, we use the ICD-10 as a guide to help you gain an initial, reliable overview of surgical conditions and treatments. Here you will find clear explanations for patients and their families, as well as specialist information for colleagues – all based on this recognised classification system.
It is important to us to be open with you: the ICD-10 describes clinical conditions in general terms. It cannot and should not replace individual medical advice. Every person, every medical history and every situation is different – and that is precisely what cannot be captured in a classification system. Therefore, please regard our pages as a first point of contact to help you find your bearings and approach a discussion with us well-informed. For any further questions – whether regarding your personal diagnosis, treatment options or anything else on your mind – we are happy to assist you. Please get in touch. Through personal contact, we can address your situation in greater detail and, above all, on an individual basis. This applies to patients and their relatives as well as to referring colleagues.
This wiki is intended to provide general information and guidance on clinical presentations, treatments and ICD-10-related terms. The content is compiled, checked and edited with great care. Nevertheless, errors, omissions or ambiguous wording cannot be entirely ruled out when compiling, classifying and presenting medical information, ICD codes and editorial content in a comprehensible manner.
The wiki is not a diagnostic tool. It is not a substitute for personal medical advice, examination, diagnosis, treatment recommendations or a second opinion. Final findings, diagnoses, medical assessments and treatment decisions are made exclusively by the attending doctors.
The ICD-10 is used on this website as a recognised medical classification system and guide. We are users of this classification, not publishers or authors. The current official versions of the WHO and the ICD-10-GM published by the BfArM on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health are authoritative.
Please note: The ICD-10 describes clinical pictures and diagnoses in general terms. It cannot reflect individual medical histories, personal findings, comorbidities, risks, indications for surgery or treatment decisions.
If you have symptoms or questions regarding your personal situation, a diagnosis or treatment, please contact your treating doctors. In the event of acute, severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, please seek immediate emergency medical assistance, visit an A&E department or contact the emergency services. This website is not intended for medical emergencies.
For referring doctors and colleagues, the information serves as an initial structured overview. It does not replace current guidelines, interdisciplinary consultation, in-house treatment pathways or individual medical responsibility.
If you notice any inconsistencies, outdated information or misleading wording, we would be grateful if you could bring this to the attention of the editorial team.
